SUMMARY:FAS Visits ICARDA
DESCRIPTION:\nA team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) visited the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) in New Delhi on 3 April, 2025, as part of the projects funded by the CGIAR-Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) titled “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” and “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in South India.” ( https://fas.org.in/research/research-projects/the-dynamics-of-agricultural-innovation-in-india/ ) The FAS team, comprising Professor Madhura Swaminathan, Dr. Sandipan Baksi, Dr. Tapas S. Modak, and Sai Chandan Kotu, aimed to document the innovations undertaken by ICARDA in India over the last 20 years. \nICARDA is a CGIAR centre that was established in 1977. The organisation’s South Asia and China Regional Program (SACRP) office was established in 2008 in New Delhi at the NASC Complex. In India, ICARDA primarily works in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Punjab, and Assam.\nThe FAS team had a highly productive discussion with Dr. Shiv Kumar Agrawal, Regional Coordinator of the ICARDA South Asia and China Regional Program, on the history of ICARDA’s research with a specific focus on India. Dr. Agrawal also apprised the FAS team of the different ongoing research portfolios of the centre. He assured the FAS team of ICARDA’s institutional support for the projects. The FAS team also had the opportunity to interact with the other scientists working in the New Delhi office on some of the major projects and interventions of ICARDA. \nThe interaction provided the team with a clearer understanding of ICARDA’s research priorities and ongoing initiatives in India. The sharing of technical insights and materials is expected to inform and further strengthen the work under the projects.\nHere are a few glimpses from the visit…\n\n \n #gallery-1 {\n margin: auto;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-item {\n float: left;\n margin-top: 10px;\n text-align: center;\n width: 50%;\n }\n #gallery-1 img {\n border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-caption {\n margin-left: 0;\n }\n /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
