SUMMARY:FAS Visits CIFOR-ICRAF
DESCRIPTION:\nA team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) visited the office of the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) in New Delhi on April 3, 2025, as part of the projects funded by the CGIAR-Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) titled “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” and “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in South India.” ( https://fas.org.in/research/research-projects/the-dynamics-of-agricultural-innovation-in-india/ ) The FAS team, comprising Dr. Sandipan Baksi, Dr. Tapas S. Modak, and Sai Chandan Kotu, aimed to document the innovations undertaken by CIFOR-ICRAF in India over the last 20 years. \nCIFOR and ICRAF are two CGIAR centres that were functionally merged in 2019. CIFOR-ICRAF conducts research on the role of trees in addressing interconnected issues related to biodiversity, climate, food systems, value chains, and equity. Although the South Asia Research Program formally established its office in New Delhi in 2003, its work in India began in the 1980s under an agreement with the Government of India.\nThe FAS team had a productive discussion with Manoj Dabas (Country Director, India), Dr. Shiv Kumar Dhyani, and Aqeel Hasan Rizvi on the history of CIFOR-ICRAF’s work in India. The discussion centred around the history of CIFOR-ICRAF’s work in India over the years, with a focus on some of their major projects and interventions. They also provided the FAS team with an overview of the collaborative work undertaken with ICAR on various aspects of agroforestry. In particular, the role of CIFOR-ICRAF in shaping the agroforestry policies in India was discussed. \nThe meeting provided the FAS team with relevant insights into the research and implementation work at CIFOR-ICRAF. The exchange of project material and research documentation is expected to further enhance the ongoing efforts at the Foundation. \nHere are a few glimpses from the visit…\n\n \n #gallery-1 {\n margin: auto;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-item {\n float: left;\n margin-top: 10px;\n text-align: center;\n width: 50%;\n }\n #gallery-1 img {\n border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-caption {\n margin-left: 0;\n }\n /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
