SUMMARY:In-House Discussion on “Do Bigha Zamin”
DESCRIPTION:On October 21, 2022, the Foundation organised an in-house discussion on Bimal Roy’s 1953 movie, “Do Bigha Zamin.” The movie is based on Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali poem, “Dui Bigha Jomi,” and took its inspiration from the Italian neo-realist cinema.\nVarious interesting themes like the movie’s political significance, increasing alienation of peasants from land in the country then, the difference in the pace of life in the village and the city, class angles present in the movie, and the influence of the stage on the performances in the film were discussed.\nAaliya Sehar, Arindam Das, Arumugham Nagendran, Deepak Johnson, Kulvinder Singh, Noopur Varma, Pinki Ghosh, Rakesh Kumar Mahato, Sandipan Baksi, Sethu C A, Sudha N, Sujan N, Tapas Modak and V Sridhar participated in the discussion.\n
