SUMMARY:In house seminar on Gender Inequality in Land Ownership in India and the Impact of Inheritance Laws
DESCRIPTION:Rakesh Kumar Mahato, Senior Data Analyst with the Foundation presented a seminar titled “Gender Inequality in Land Ownership in India and the Impact of Inheritance Laws”. The seminar was presented at the Foundation’s office.\nIn the seminar, Rakesh quantified the extent of inequality in land ownership using the latest round of the All India Debt and Investment Survey. Less than 20 per cent of the rural landowners are females – owning only 11 per cent of the land. In the seminar, Rakesh also showed that longer the exposure to reform laws, greater is the likelihood of females’ owning land.\nHowever, the process of reduction in gender inequality remained slow and with effective implementation and awareness of reformed inheritance laws, the inequality can be substantially reduced.\nRakesh identified some of the factors which are driving this inequality and discussed the effectiveness of the inheritance laws at the state-level in improving female land ownership.\nThe seminar was attended by Aaliya Sehar, Arumugham, Kulvinder Singh, Sai Chandan Kotu, Sethu C A, Tapas Singh Modak and Utkarsh at the Foundation’s office, while Kunal Munjal, Madhura Swaminathan, Ritam Dutta, V.K. Ramachandran and Soham joined the seminar virtually.\nThere was an engaging question and answer session which followed the seminar.\nHere are a few glimpses from the seminar…\n\n \n #gallery-1 {\n margin: auto;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-item {\n float: left;\n margin-top: 10px;\n text-align: center;\n width: 50%;\n }\n #gallery-1 img {\n border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;\n }\n #gallery-1 .gallery-caption {\n margin-left: 0;\n }\n /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
