About FAS: The Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) is a charitable trust established in 2003 and based in Bangalore, India. It is engaged in field-based research on agrarian issues. The major objective of the Foundation is to facilitate multi-disciplinary theoretical and empirical research in the field of agrarian studies in India and other less-developed countries. The employee strength of the Foundation is around 12-15.

Work Location: 677, First Floor, 9th A Main Road, Indiranagar 1st Stage, Bengaluru 560038.

Position: Research Officer

Duration: Two years (extendable by one year based on performance)

Purpose: FAS invites applications for the position of Research Officer for a new research project titled “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” in collaboration with Monash University, Australia. The research focuses on the adoption and impact of agricultural innovations in North India.

The position is ideal for a candidate interested in studying agricultural science and technology from a social science perspective. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with an excellent network of national and international research partners, and may have the chance to develop future research related to this field.

Tasks:

  • Documentation of project activities
  • Coordination of project events, workshops and meetings
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with various stakeholders
  • Coordinate large-scale data collection activities for socio-economic and bio-physical variables pertaining to agricultural innovations in India
  • Systematic review of literature
  • Assistance in data processing, analysing, and report preparation
  • Travel to different regions of India for project activities

Essential requirements

  • MSc. in Agricultural Science with relevant experience. Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy with relevant experience will also be considered. 
  • Good understanding of scientific and technological development in Indian agriculture.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi
  • Strong coordination and organisational skill
  • Experience in handling/leading a small research team.
  • Experience in managing events
  • Willingness to travel extensively

Other requirements:

  • Proficiency in one of the languages, Punjabi or Odia
  • Knowledge of geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing technologies
  • Candidate with a PhD degree will be given preference

Emoluments: Starting from INR 60,000 per month (actual will be based on work experience and performance in the selection procedure)
