In-House Seminar by Bheemeshwar Reddy
On February 3, 2025, Dr. Bheemeshwar Reddy, Associate Professor of Economics at the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Hyderabad, presented his study titled, “Revival or Statistical Smoke? The Rise of Women’s Employment in Rural India” in an in-house seminar organised by the Foundation.
Bheemeshwar’s research examines the apparent rise in the Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLPR) in recent years, as reported in the official labour force surveys. This rise, the paper argues, can perhaps be attributed to the changes in the instructions given to the enumerators.
The seminar was conducted in a hybrid mode. Bheemeshwar presented the findings online, which was well attended by participants at the Foundation’s office and online.
The presentation was followed by an insightful Q&A session, where participants engaged thoughtfully with the themes and findings of the papers. This led to a meaningful discussion, highlighting diverse perspectives and critical insights.
Here are a few glimpses from the seminar…
