FAS Visits IFPRI

A team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) visited the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in New Delhi on 2 April, 2025, as part of the projects funded by the CGIAR-Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) titled “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” and “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in South India.” The FAS team, comprising Professor Madhura Swaminathan, Dr. Sandipan Baksi, Dr. Tapas S. Modak, and Sai Chandan Kotu, aimed to document the innovations undertaken by IFPRI over the last 20 years.

IFPRI is a CGIAR centre which was established in 1975 with headquarters in Washington, DC, United States of America, with a focus on providing policy solutions in developing countries to tackle poverty, hunger and malnutrition. IFPRI began its South Asia program in 2002 and established its South Asia Regional Office at the NASC complex in New Delhi, India in 2005.

The FAS team had an engaging discussion with Dr. Anjani Kumar, Senior Research Fellow and Dr. Avinash Kishore, Senior Research Fellow. They provided a detailed outline of IFPRI’s research over the years, with a specific focus on the work done in India. They also introduced the FAS team to the different research themes that are being undertaken in India and the corresponding researchers. IFPRI’s team was appreciative of this project and underscored the importance of documenting the various policy contributions made by CGIAR centres.

The visit provided the FAS team with valuable insights into IFPRI’s research in India and also helped them in thematising the organisation’s policy contributions. The exchange of relevant material by IFRPI’s team is expected to further enrich the ongoing efforts under the project.
