Session 2D: The World of Rural Workers- International Conference on Agrarian Change

Session 2D on Day 2 (November 7, 2025) of the International Conference on Agrarian Change was chaired by V. Sridhar (Former Associate Editor, Frontline, Bangalore) with Vinoj Abraham (Professor, Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram) as Discussant. Speakers were Priya Kumari (PhD Scholar, CESP, JNU), Prachi Bansal (Assistant Professor, Economics, JSGP, Jindal Global University), Mrityunjay Rao (PhD Scholar (Economics), JNU), Sreenivasulu Yamanapalli (Associate Professor, Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad), and Nageshwar Bansode (Assistant Professor, B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics University, Bengaluru). The session explored unequal access to the Kisan Credit Card, labour in cotton farming, labouring lives in rural brick kilns, longitudinal evidence from Dalit landless labourers and landed households, and caste and access to public amenities, showing persistent tied labour, mechanisation, migration, and social hierarchies.
