Session 4C on Day 3 (November 8, 2025) of the International Conference on Agrarian Change was chaired by Jayan Jose Thomas (Professor of Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT-Delhi). It included presentations by Brinda Viswanathan (Professor, Madras School of Economics, Sudha Narayanan(Senior Research Fellow at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)), Shamsher Singh (Assistant Professor, Sociology Department, Flame University), and R. Nagaraj (Retired Professor of Economics at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Bombay).

The session examined nutrition security, food subsidy debates, housing conditions, and import dependence in agriculture. The discussions highlighted nutrient intake and deprivation, the Public Distribution System, housing and basic amenities in rural Uttar Pradesh, and the increasing reliance on imported food items and inputs.
