Session 1A- International Conference on Agrarian Change
Session 1A on Day 2 (November 7, 2025) of the International Conference on Agrarian Change was chaired by T. M. Thomas Isaac (Economist; former Minister for Finance and Coir, Kerala), with R. Ramakumar (Professor, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai) as Interim Chair. Speakers were Barbara Harriss-White (Professor Emeritus of Development Studies; Emeritus Fellow of Wolfson College), Deepak Johnson (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, CHRIST (Deemed to be University)), Surajit Mazumdar (Professor, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University), and Mihika Chatterjee (Lecturer, International Development, University of Bath). The session explored neoliberal and corporate pressures, rising costs, falling farm incomes, inequality, land dispossession, and non-farm stagnation, along with post-colonial agrarian capital, the profitability crisis, corporate intervention, and land, tenancy, and rural accumulation.
