About FAS: The Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) is a charitable trust established in 2003 and based in Bangalore, India. It is engaged in field-based research on agrarian issues. The major objective of the Foundation is to facilitate multi-disciplinary theoretical and empirical research in the field of agrarian studies in India and other less-developed countries. The employee strength of the Foundation is around 12-15.

Work Location: 677, First Floor, 9th A Main Road, Indiranagar 1st Stage, Bengaluru 560038.

Position: Researcher

Duration: 18 months (extendable by six months) 

Purpose: FAS invites applications for the position of Researcher for a research project titled “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” in collaboration with Monash University, Australia. The research focuses on the adoption and impact of agricultural innovations in a number of States located in the northern part of India (Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal).

The position is ideal for a candidate interested in studying agricultural science and technology from a social science perspective. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with an excellent network of national and international research partners, and may have the chance to develop future research related to this field.

Tasks:

  • Planning and execution of various activities under the project, including project-related events.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of various project activities. 
  • Collaboration and communication with data collection partners for socio-economic and bio-physical variables pertaining to agricultural innovations in India.
  • Liaising with project partners, collaborators, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Assistance in preparing project deliverables, policy briefs, and research articles. 
  • Travel to different regions of India for project activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential requirements

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or related field with relevant research experience. 
  • Knowledge of scientific and technological development in Indian agriculture will be an added advantage.
  • Expertise in quantitative data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience working with software such as R, Python, Stata, QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Experience in handling/leading a small research team.
  • Strong coordination and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in one of the languages spoken in the northern part of India (Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal).
  • Knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies will be an added advantage.

Emoluments: As per the industry standard.
