Visit to Alabujanahalli with Professor Sugimoto
As part of Professor Sugimoto’s visit to the Foundation between January 8 and 13, 2024, A three-member research team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies visited the village Alabujanahalli in Mandya district, Karnataka on January 12, 2024.
The team consisted of Tapas Singh Modak, Associate Fellow at FAS, Sethu C. A., Senior Research Assistant at FAS, and Professor Daizo Sugimoto, Department of Economics, Meijo University, Japan, a research collaborator of the Foundation.
The village Alabujanahalli, is located in the Cauvery-irrigated region of South Karnataka. During his visit to the village, Professor explored various irrigation channels which come from the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam. He also tried to understand the sericulture and livestock activities in the village.
The village Alabujanahalli was studied under the Karnataka round of the Project on Agrarian Relations in India in 2009.
In 2014, case studies of 16 households were also conducted in Alabujanahalli. The village was also one of the sites of three rounds of time-use surveys of women, which were conducted by the Foundation between May 2017 and May 2018.
