In-House Seminar by Ajil Mankunnummal
On April 9, 2025, Ajil Mankunnummal, Research Officer at the Foundation, presented his study titled, “Regulatory Reforms and Innovation: The Case of India’s Chemical Fertilizer Manufacturing Industry” in an in-house seminar organised by the Foundation. The study is based on his doctoral research at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram.
Ajil’s study examines how regulation in India’s chemical fertilizer manufacturing industry has shaped the pace and pattern of technological change post-liberalisation. It identifies a shift from technological self-reliance to growing foreign dependence, with innovation being focused more on process rather than product development due to government emphasis on cost reduction.
The seminar was conducted in a hybrid mode and was well attended by participants at the Foundation’s office and online.
The presentation was followed by a lively and insightful Q&A session, where participants critically engaged with the findings presented. The discussion brought out diverse perspectives and valuable insights, making for a meaningful exchange of ideas.
