Angshuman Sarma, a Ph.D. candidate from the Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, made a presentation on the changing labour structure in the tea plantations in Assam, at the office of the Foundation on May 15, 2019.

Angshuman began with a brief discussion on the historical establishment of tea plantations in Assam under British colonialism, and went on to trace the changes in the tea industry in independent India. He also described the corresponding changes in the labour structure, from slave-like bondage to complete casualisation.
