Panel Discussion on Findings from Telephone Surveys
The Foundation organised a panel discussion on findings from telephone surveys in 26 villages across 13 States in India on the impact of Covid-19 on the kharif production cycle and consumption in the countryside. The seminar was held at 4:30 p.m. IST on December 28, 2020.
Tapas Modak is an Associate Fellow at the Foundation for Agrarian Studies. His primary research interests are irrigation development in India. Soham B., S. Niyati, and R. Vijayamba are Senior Research Fellows at the Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. Soham B.’s current research interest is agricultural tenancy in contemporary rural India. S. Niyati’s primary research interest on gender and employment in the agrarian context. R. Vijayamba’s research interests are rural women and work, and women’s participation in cooperatives.
Tapas Modak and Soham B. presented on the topic “Impact of Covid-19 on the Kharif Production Cycle” while S. Niyati and R. Vijayamba elaborated on the “Impact of Covid-19 on Consumption in the Countryside”.
The Chair for the seminar, Amit Basole, is an Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Arts and Sciences, Azim Premji University, Bangalore. His research interests are poverty and inequality, informality, employment, structural change, and the political economy of knowledge. He was the lead author for the ‘State of Working India’ reports published by Azim Premji University in 2018 and ’19.
