Relationship between Agriculture and Livestock in Colonial India

Dr Himanshu Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor, Azim Premji University, Bangalore visited the office of the Foundation on Jan 16, 2019. He interacted with some members of the Foundation on various aspects of its activities, and the database of the Project on Agrarian Relations in India.

This was followed by a presentation by him, based on his doctoral thesis which looks at the “symbiotic relationship between agriculture and livestock in colonial and post-colonial India.” He spoke on the history of surplus cattle, cattle breeding and milk cooperatives, and the emergence of the organised dairy industry.

The presentation followed a round of discussion around his research objectives and methodology.
