Revisiting Palakurichi and Venmani with Professor Sugimoto
A three-member research team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies visited the villages of Palakurichi and Venmani in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu for two days on January 9 and 10, 2024. The team consisted of Tapas Singh Modak, Associate Fellow at FAS, Sethu C. A., Senior Research Assistant at FAS, and Professor Daizo Sugimoto, Department of Economics, Meijo University, Japan, a research collaborator of the Foundation.
The visit was a part of Professor Sugimoto’s visit to the Foundation between January 8 and 13, 2024. Professor Sugimoto had several discussions with farmers from various size-class categories. The discussions included topics such as production conditions, income sources, employment opportunities, and wage rates.
He also explored the irrigation channels and fields of the villages.
Palakurichi and Venmani were first surveyed by the Foundation in May-June, 2019, as part of its project on “Agrarian Relations in the Lower Cauvery Delta.”
