Young Scholars’ Workshop on Contemporary Issues in Rural India
The Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) organised a workshop on “Contemporary Issues in Rural India” for young scholars. The event was held on March 1 and 2, 2019 at the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, 3rd Cross Street, Institutional Area, Taramani, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Students and research scholars interested in the field of agrarian studies and different socio-economic aspects of rural life in India benefited from this workshop.
The workshop covered themes pertaining to the agrarian economy of India, including agricultural production and productivity, inequalities in the agrarian economy, the state of agricultural credit, farm business incomes, and rural employment and wages. It also included sessions on the method of village studies, and a hands-on data analysis exercise. Faculty expected to participate in the workshop include Abhijit Sen, Arindam Das, Madhura Swaminathan, R. Ramakumar, K. Nagaraj, V. Surjit, Venkatesh Athreya, and V. K. Ramachandran.
