The Karnataka government has followed in the footsteps of the Central government with its promulgation of the Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 (henceforth the Karnataka Land Ordinance) on July 13, 2020. The Covid-19 Pandemic and Rural Dalit Households: Observations from Two Villages in Tamil Nadu a working paper by M. Thangaraj and C. A. Sethu

This working paper attempts to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Dalit households in rural India, with a special focus on two villages in Tamil Nadu. The paper is based on telephonic surveys conducted by the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) as part of its Pandemic Study Unit (FAS – PSU). view pdf

Articles from Review of Agrarian Studies

The Pandemic Studies Unit of the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) conducted a telephonic survey of 164 informants from 26 villages across 13 States of India between mid-September and mid-October, 2020. The questions in the interviews sought primarily to understand the effects of the pandemic on agricultural production, employment, income, and food security in rural India. The informants represented a cross section of village society. Of the 164 informants, 22 were from landlord/rich capitalist farmer households, 36 from rich/middle peasant households, 45 from poor peasant households, 38 from manual worker households, and the remaining 23 from households engaged in business and other non-agricultural activities.
