The Foundation is happy to announce the release of the book titled “Socio-Economic Surveys in Three Villages in West Bengal: A Study of Agrarian Relations.” The fifth volume in the Socio-Economic Survey series of the Foundation for Agrarian Studies is edited by Aparajita Bakshi (Associate Professor, R V University, Bangalore), and Tapas Singh Modak (Associate Fellow, Foundation for Agrarian Studies, Bengaluru). It is published by the Tulika Books, New Delhi. This book is based on surveys conducted in three villages in West Bengal, in June–July 2010 and May–June 2015. The villages studied are Panahar in the Old Alluvial region of Bankura district, Amarsinghi in the New Alluvial region of Maldah district, and Kalmandasguri in the Terai region of Koch Bihar district. The book has four sections, with chapters covering a range of issues on the agricultural and non-agricultural production and production relations, incomes, employment, poverty and human development of rural households at an important juncture in the State’s development and political trajectory.
