FAS Team Visits Punjab Agricultural University

On December 4 and 5, 2025, a team from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS) visited Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana as part of the CGIAR-Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) funded projects on the “Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” and “Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in South India. The FAS team, comprising Dr. Sandipan Baksi (Co-Principal Investigator), Dr. Tapas S. Modak (Project Manager), and Dr. Sherry Jacob (Project Collaborator), aimed to document the extensive range of innovations undertaken by the Punjab Agricultural University in collaboration with various CGIAR centres in India.

The team held discussions with Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, PAU Director of Research; Dr. Gurjit Singh Mangat, Additional Director of Research; Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education; and Dr. Gurjinder Pal Singh Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education.

The team also interacted with distinguished scholars and senior scientists from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics and the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. During the interaction, PAU scientists provided an overview of their research on crop improvement and other agricultural technologies, and briefed the team on various research efforts jointly undertaken by the PAU and CGIAR centres in India.

These interactions also provided critical insights into the long-standing partnerships between PAU and CGIAR centres that have historically contributed to agricultural research and development in Punjab.
