Visit by Professor Prabhu Pingali

Dr. Prabhu Pingali, Professor of Applied Economics and Director of the Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition, Cornell University, visited the Foundation’s office on March 2, 2026.
During the visit, he was introduced to the Foundation’s work, including its research, publications, and events, by Sandipan Baksi, Director of the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS).
This was followed by an introduction to the projects “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India” and “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in South India” by Tapas Modak, Project Manager. A detailed discussion followed, focusing particularly on the next phase of the project, which will include shortlisting of CGIAR-related innovations in India, and designing a socio-economic survey and biophysical data collection methods to examine the reach and adoption of these innovations.
The following people participated in the discussion: Professor Madhura Swaminathan (Trustee, FAS), Dr. Sandipan Baksi (Director, FAS), and Dr. Tapas Modak (Joint Director, FAS). Joining the discussion online were Dr. Gaurav Datt (Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Monash University) and Jose Maria Martinez Rioja (Research Fellow, Monash University).
We thank Professor Pingali for the insightful exchange and look forward to his continued support and guidance as the project progresses.
