The Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS), Bengaluru, organised a week-long team workshop for the project “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India”, funded by the CGIAR–Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA).
The workshop was attended by the project’s Principal Investigators, Professor Madhura Swaminathan (Former Professor, ISI Bangalore and FAS Trustee) and Dr. Gaurav Datt (Monash University); Co-Principal Investigators, Dr. Emilia Tjernström (Macquarie University) (online) and Dr. Sandipan Baksi (Director, FAS); Project Collaborator, Dr. Sherry Jacob (ICAR-NBPGR); Research Fellow, Dr. Jose María Martínez (Monash University) and Project Manager, Dr. Tapas S. Modak (Joint Director, FAS).
As part of the project’s next phase, a sample survey, the Integrated Agricultural Household Survey (IAHS), which includes two rounds of data collection, has been planned to examine the extent of adoption in select states of North India (Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha). The objective of this workshop was to discuss the sampling strategy to be adopted for this study and refine the survey instruments, particularly the questionnaire.
Several rounds of in-depth discussions helped the team make important decisions on refining both the sampling strategy and the different components of the data collection process for the IAHS. The approaches and methods for the bio-physical survey were also discussed.
