The fourth seminar of the FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar Series, July-November 2026, will be presented by Rakesh Gomaji Nannewar, Assistant Professor, Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 4 PM IST.
Rakesh’s study examines how Agrometeorological Advisory Services (AAS) reach farmers in rural India and how socioeconomic factors influence access to weather information through different channels. It also explores the importance of rural institutions, cooperative societies, and local extension networks in promoting inclusive access to climate information.
The study combines Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation theory with a Knowledge Management framework to examine both social dissemination and institutional production of advisories. A landholding-stratified survey of 1,799 cultivators across 18 villages in six districts of the Kalyana-Karnataka region was complemented by stakeholder interviews. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests assessed socioeconomic differences in access across communication channels.
The discussant for this session is Linitha Nair, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Meteorology, College of Agriculture, Kerala Agricultural University.
The series is chaired by Barbara Harriss-White, Emeritus Professor of Development Studies, the University of Oxford.
