Pandemic Studies Unit
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a deep and multifaceted impact on life, production, and work in rural India. While some of these effects are temporary, the pandemic will also change the Indian countryside in certain permanent ways. Studies on the impact of the pandemic would be essential to provide inputs to the policy makers, and to shape the agenda and demands of the farmers and workers movement. The Foundation for Agrarian Studies has been in the forefront of studies of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown on India’s countryside. It has established a Pandemic Studies Unit that aims to study specifically the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on agricultural production, non-agricultural work in rural India, rural employment, including issues of women’s work, food security, and agriculture and rural development policy.
This page consolidates all the publications, studies, blog posts, and webinars by the FAS team members and research collaborators on the subject.
