FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar Series

FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar Series (YSOSS) is a platform for young scholars working in the field of agrarian studies and on socio-economic life in rural India to present their findings and receive feedback from peers, expert discussants, and other eminent scholars. The end-goal is to build a network of such scholars. The series is chaired by Barbara Harriss-White, Emeritus Professor of Development Studies, University of Oxford.

As an independent research institute committed to the pursuit of multidisciplinary enquiry into the field of agrarian studies in India and other less-developed countries, the Foundation is known for working with, and building a network of young scholars since its inception. These efforts, in the past, have included regular workshops and seminars, rolling internship programmes, and a repository of open access research resources for the use of young researchers.

The Young Scholars’ Online Seminars Series that began in April 2022 is yet another instance of our ongoing efforts to engage with young scholars working on aspects of the agrarian question, and rural life.

Young scholars present their research in these hour-long seminars, which are followed by comments from a discussant with subject expertise, and a general discussion chaired by Barbara Harriss-White. These monthly seminars are well-received academic events attended by a large number of young scholars from across the globe.
