Words from Past Presenters

Participating in the seminar proved to be a rewarding experience, providing an invaluable platform for the presentation of my research work. The chance to share my findings with a knowledgeable audience, notably including Dr. Barbara Harriss-White, facilitated engaging discussions and offered constructive feedback, significantly enhancing my research. I highly appreciated the active engagement of fellow participants, whose astute observations and inquiries proved highly beneficial for my analysis. Undoubtedly, the seminar series has played a pivotal role in fostering academic collaboration, and I am deeply thankful for the opportunity of being a part of it.

At a time when the social sciences and especially rural development studies have become technocratic and obsessed with number crunching, the initiative Young Scholars’ Seminar by the Foundation for Agrarian Studies revives the essence of a crucial aspect of research in the social sciences. This series, which became a confluence of scholarly works on rural development in South Asia, created an excellent place for researchers who are interested in issues such as income deprivation, agrarian inequalities, agricultural productivity, and migration, to mention a few. An extremely well curated format with a diverse set of scholars coming together to reclaim the much needed discourse on political economy and to reassert the importance of ‘studying the countryside’ remains an important contribution of this series. I hope this series continues and expands to far larger scholarly geographies.

FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar was very helpful in my research. I received some valuable feedback during the preparation of my presentation and a very extensive set of comments for revising my research article. I am grateful to the Chair and the discussant for their detailed feedback. Apart from my own presentation, I have found the seminar series to be very insightful in general. Discussions following the presentations have been very lively, with a lot to reflect on research methodologies and the broader implications of specific findings from various studies. I wish my colleagues at FAS the very best in organising the series for the future.

An exceptional initiative by the Foundation for Agrarian Studies. Participating in this series has been truly motivating, providing a platform for scholars like me to present our research. The invaluable feedback provided by Prof. Barbara Harriss-White not only enhanced the quality of my work but also encouraged me to delve deeper into my research for future publication. This interaction remains a cherished memory, highlighting the importance of scholarly exchange and mentorship.
