FAS Team Visits Hyderabad as part of the project “Digital Agriculture in India”

As part of our ongoing project “Digital Agriculture in India”, a team from FAS carried out a field visit to Hyderabad, Telangana, from August 4 to 12, 2025, to study the evolving ecosystem of digital technologies in agriculture. The project seeks to understand how technologies, policies, and institutions are shaping digital agriculture, with Telangana serving as a case study. The first phase of the visit focused on the supply side of digital agriculture, with the objective of mapping innovations, projects, and the roles of different stakeholders in this ecosystem.
During the visit, the team engaged with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials from the Departments of Agriculture and Information Technology, scientists from the state agricultural university, research institutes, startup incubators, civil society organisations, and a few agri-tech startups. Discussions revolved around ongoing digital agriculture initiatives, development of digital public infrastructure for agriculture, applications of digital technologies such as drones, AI, IoT, and digital platforms, as well as the opportunities and challenges in scaling these solutions for farmers. The interactions provided valuable insights into the policies, institutional collaborations, and barriers that shape the digital agriculture landscape in Telangana and India more broadly.
The FAS team consisted of Arindam Das, Joint Director, Sai Chandan Kotu, Senior Research Assistant, Rithika Pulagiri, Research Assistant, and Nagesh Maurya, Research Assistant.
